Zero Harm to People and Environment
Under our Zero Harm Vision, we believe that all incidents to our workforce and adverse impact from the environment are preventable. Our strategic action to accomplish our zero harm vision each fall under one of three distinct pillars - Safety, Health and Wellness or Environment.
Enterprise EHS Processes and Standards
Distracted Driving Policy
Research evidence indicates that at any moment in time around 7% of drivers are using a mobile device while driving. Drivers miss seeing up to 50% of what's around them when talking on a mobile device, including when using it hands-free.
JCI Distracted Driving Policy removes unnecessary risks that put our employees and others in harm's way. The policy prohibits all employees (and other persons authorized to use a company-owned or leased vehicle), while driving a moving vehicle, from using electronic devices including mobile/cell phones or any other form of communication media likely to cause distraction when driving on company business. Corporations have been issued multi-million dollar fines for distracted driving incidents caused by their employees.
Driving Safety Standard
The JCI Corporate “Driving Safety” Standard has been developed by a workgroup with BU EHS representation, co-ordinated by Corporate EHS COE during Q4 FY 2019. The workgroup proposal was subsequently reviewed and approved by the EHS SLT during Q1 FY 2020 and enters into effect January 1, 2020. This Standard is written and adopted to establish minimum health and safety requirements for the protection of employees against the hazards imposed by using or working on or near motorised and non-motorised vehicles.
This Standard is applicable to all Johnson Controls business units and operations worldwide, including joint ventures (JV), partnerships or other business arrangements where Johnson Controls has operational / managerial control, or in a JV where Johnson Controls ownership is greater than 50%.

Global Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Policy
This policy identifies the key operating principles that define our expectations, actions and behaviors of all Johnson Controls employees in conducting business that is protective of health, safety and the environment.
Sustainability Report
Since 2003, we have reported sustainability data in accordance with the GRI guidelines. We do what we say we will do and are transparent about where we can improve.
Our sustainability reports are prepared in accordance with the GRI Standards: Comprehensive option. We are also a SASB Reporter, utilizing the SASB Standard for the Resource Transformation Sector – Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the reports.

Our team in Indonesia was recently awarded two Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) certifications, in recognition of our robust work safety protocol and practices. Attaining accreditation and certification is a reflection of our commitment to a safe and healthy work environment to our employees, customers and the communities in which we operate.
